Occupy Till I Come : Media Industry

What is Media?
A means of transmitting information from one group or individual to another group or individual. In the modern world, "media" principally has come to be recognized as radio, TV, newspapers, magazines and the varied forms of advertising (hoardings, leaflet drops etc.). New forms of media are being experimented with and are developing rapidly. (E-mail, interactive video etc.)

Why media ministry?
It is the fastest means to proclaim the good news to "every nation, tribe, language and people." (Revelations 14:6). To achieve success, we must "meet people where they are"(location).

Just a Finding
The average weekly media consumption in Britain is approximately 75 hours per person. Half listen to radio every day, three quarters read a daily newspaper, and about 98% of British households possess at least one television set. The average time spent in Christian thought or church attendance?  If people are no longer attending church, are reticent to attend public meetings, are scared to open their front door to a friendly knock; the media offers an avenue to allow a Christian viewpoint inside the home.

Luke 19:13 (KJV)  “And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.”

Hebrews 1:1-2 (AMP)  “God, having spoken to the fathers long ago in [the voices and writings of] the prophets in many separate revelations [each of which set forth a portion of the truth], and in many ways) has in these last days spoken [with finality] to us in [the person of One who is by His character and nature] His Son [namely Jesus], whom He appointed heir and lawful owner of all things, through whom also He created the universe.”

God used many approaches to send His messages to people in the Old Testament times. He spoke to Isaiah in a vision (Isaiah 6:1-13), Jacob in a dream (Genesis 28:10-27) and to Abraham and Moses personally (Genesis 18; Exodus 31:18).And in this day, is revealing His will through our Lord Jesus Christ.

2 Timothy 4:1-5 (KJV) –  I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.”

Prayer Focus

Ø   Increased opportunities to impart the truth through media and for lives to be changed.

Ø   The Christian media professionals will be true witnesses of the gospel to their colleagues.

Ø   Effective discipleship of young Christians who are looking to build a career in, or will be working with, the media.

Luke 19:11-27 (AMP)

“While they were listening to these things, Jesus went on to tell a parable, because He was near Jerusalem, and they assumed that the kingdom of God was going to appear immediately [as soon as He reached the city]. So He said, “A nobleman went to a distant country to obtain for himself a kingdom, and [then] to return. So he called ten of his servants, and gave them ten minas [one apiece, each equal to about a hundred days’ wages] and said to them, ‘Do business [with this] until I return.’  But his citizens [the residents of his new kingdom] hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We do not want this man to be a king over us.’

When he returned, after receiving the kingdom, he ordered that these servants, to whom he had given the money, be called to him, that he might find out what business they had done. The first one came before him and said, ‘Lord, your mina has made ten more minas.’ And he said to him, ‘Well done, good servant! Because you proved yourself faithful and trustworthy in a very little thing, you shall [now] have authority over ten cities [in my kingdom].’ The second one came and said, ‘Lord, your mina has made five minas.’ And he said to him also, ‘And you shall take charge over five cities.’ Then another came and said, ‘Lord, here is your mina, which I have kept laid up in a handkerchief [for safekeeping].  I was [always] afraid of you, because you are a stern man; you pick up what you did not lay down and you reap what you did not sow.’ He said to the servant, ‘I will judge and condemn you by your own words, you worthless servant! Did you [really] know that I was a stern man, picking up what I did not lay down and reaping what I did not sow? Then why did you not [at the very least] put my money in a bank? Then on my return, I would have collected it with interest.’

Then he said to the bystanders, ‘Take the mina away from him and give it to the one who has the ten minas.’ And they said to him, ‘Lord, he has ten minas already!’  [Jesus explained,] ‘I tell you that to everyone who has [because he valued his gifts from God and has used them wisely], more will be given; but from the one who does not have [because he disregarded his gifts from God], even what he has will be taken away.’ [The king ended by saying,] ‘But as for these enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them, bring them here and kill them in my presence.’

Prayer Points

Ø  Father, thank You for the calling You have placed on the lives of many Christians to serve You in the media across all of its expressions.

Ø   We thank You for the media and the opportunities it creates. We thank You for the Christians who work in that world day in day out, striving to live lives of integrity and humility.

Ø We give thanks for all who report, evaluate, interview, challenge and investigate on our behalf; for correspondents, photographers, technicians and engineers, movie producers and directors.

Ø   Father, You spoke to all humanity through the life of Jesus, we pray for those who speak and communicate by the media that they will be source for You to communicate through to the world in this time.

Ø    The Lord has asked and trusts them to occupy till He returns! Lord, as You have trusted them to occupy and fill in for You, Father give them Your heart for the nations and souls.

Ø     Lord, make them profitable for You.

Ø    Father, please ensure that Your investment of Your word, the full gospel and the Holy Spirit are not squandered or wasted in their lives.

Ø     Dear Lord Jesus, help them not to hide what You have given them or misuse it.

Ø  Help them to be trustworthy and faithful in the “very little” You have assigned to them.

Ø   Lord, please do something to their hearts that they won’t be found wanting in Your service.

Ø   Father, let then have a picture in mind of their audience and work with their strengths and limitations in mind. (Acts 17:16-34. 1 Corinthians 9:19-23).

Luke 21:15(KJV)  “For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.”

Titus 1:9 (KJV)  “Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.”

Ø    Father, give them a mouth and wisdom which cannot be gainsaid.

Ø We pray that the information which they relay to us will increase our understanding, that understanding will increase our compassion, and that compassion will move us to action so that the God of all time and all peoples may be seen and known.

Ø  Let them be effective followers of You; shining as a light, in what are at times, dark places.

Ø   May they know Your encouragement as they work in areas that can be discouraging and challenging to their faith.

Ø    As they face the challenge of their work, may they know Your protection and may they be hallmarked by integrity.

Ø    Thank you, Father, that You promised never to leave us on our own, so please send the Holy Spirit afresh to those who are Your followers working in the media. May they know You as their counsellor, their friend, the one who stands alongside them.

Ø   Sovereign, revealing Lord, we thank You for the power for good of words and of images, and we lament the ways they are used for evil purposes.

Ø    As we cry to You for truth, grace and justice in places of suffering, locally and globally, we ask that You grant that people of goodwill in the media may love truth, mercy, and justice. And we especially ask that You would so infuse those who love Christ with Your Spirit that their words and images may effect positive transformation in all the places where they are seen and heard.

Ø  Grant them great grace to use their profession for Your glory as a means and tool to propagate the Gospel.

1 Thessalonians 1:5 - "For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit and in much assurance, as you know what kind of men we were among you for your sake.”

Ø   The Holy Spirit will help them speak the proper words as they spread the truth of God’s Word (Luke 12:12).

Ø   Father, give them the Spirit of power and of love and of a sound mind so they can boldly proclaim the message of Jesus Christ (2 Timothy 1:7–8).

Ø    Father, let their hearts be inditing a good matter so that they may they speak of the total Gospel; make their tongues the pen of a ready writer (Psalms 45:1).

Ø   We pray that You would continue to move powerfully in the media.

Ø    May the story tellers and the poets reflect Your redemptive story.

Ø   May the journalists and the bloggers write with a passion for justice, seeking truth rather than just headlines.

Ø   Father, we pray for the producers and the directors, that they will receive inspiration from the Holy Spirit to create movies that will cause the heart of men to seek You again and captivate their hearts for Christ (Exodus 31:1-2).

Ø  Father, we take the territory of the movie industry as a tool to preach the complete Gospel.

Ø    Lord, may they be true witnesses for and of You in all they do.

Ø   Father, we pray against every limiting factor whether they be physical or spiritual.

“And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen. (Matthew 28:18–20).

Ø Father, we pray that the media industry will be used as a tool for the multiplication of discipleship.

Ø   Lord, we pray for speed.

Children, Teenagers and Young People
- Esther, The Girl Who Followed

Esther 2: 7, 10, 15, 20, 22
7 Mordecai had a cousin named Hadassah, who had no father or mother. So Mordecai took care of her. Hadassah was also called Esther, and she had a very pretty figure and face. Mordecai had adopted her as his own daughter when her father and mother died. 10 Esther did not tell anyone about her family or who her people were. Mordecai had told her not to. 15 Esther daughter of Abihail, Mordecai’s uncle, had been adopted by Mordecai. The time came for Esther to go to the king. She asked for only what Hegai suggested she should take. (Hegai was the king’s eunuch who was in charge of the women.) And everyone who saw Esther liked her. 20 And Esther had still not told anyone about her family or who her people were. That is what Mordecai had told her to do. She still obeyed Mordecai just as she had done when he was bringing her up. 22 But Mordecai found out about their plans and told Queen Esther. Then Queen Esther told the king. She also told him that Mordecai had found out about the evil plan.

Esther the Girl who Followed and Delivered a Nation.
(Esther 4:8, 10 & 11, 13 &14, 15&16,)
Mordecai also gave him a copy of the order to kill the Jews, which had been given in Susa. He wanted Hathach to show it to Esther and to tell her about it. And Mordecai told him to order Esther to go into the king’s presence. He wanted her to beg for mercy and to plead with him for her people.
Then Esther told Hathach to say to Mordecai, “All the royal officers and people of the royal areas know this: No man or woman may go to the king in the inner courtyard without being called. There is only one law about this. Anyone who enters must be put to death. But if the king holds out his gold sceptre, that person may live. And I have not been called to go to the king for 30 days.”
Then Mordecai gave orders to say to Esther: “Just because you live in the king’s palace, don’t think that out of all the Jews you alone will escape.  You might keep quiet at this time. Then someone else will help and save the Jews. But you and your father’s family will all die. And who knows, you may have been chosen queen for just such a time as this.”
Then Esther sent this answer to Mordecai: “Go and get all the Jews in Susa together. For my sake, give up eating. Do not eat or drink for three days, night and day. I and my servant girls will also give up eating. Then I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I die, I die.”

How Do We Order this Child?
“And Manoah said, Now let thy words come to pass. How shall we order the child, and how shall we do unto him? And the angel of the Lord said unto Manoah, Of all that I said unto the woman let her beware. She may not eat of any thing that cometh of the vine, neither let her drink wine or strong drink, nor eat any unclean thing: all that I commanded her let her observe.” (Judges 13:12-14)
“ But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John. And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth. For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb. And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God. And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.” (Luke 1:13-17)

For It is God, Who is the Parent.
Philippians 2:13
“For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.” (KJV)
“[Not in your own strength] for it is God Who is all the while effectually at work in you [energizing and creating in you the power and desire], both to will and to work for His good pleasure and satisfaction and delight.” (AMPC)
“Better yet, redouble your efforts. Be energetic in your life of salvation, reverent and sensitive before God. That energy is God’s energy, an energy deep within you, God himself willing and working at what will give him the most pleasure.” (MSG)

Nsanje People of Malawi

Join this HeartCry Prayer - Every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 11:30am - 1:30pm (UK time)

Acts 17:24-31
God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;  Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.  Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device. And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.  And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear thee again of this matter.

A Cry for the Nsanje People of Malawi

Malawi is a small nation located in the south-eastern area of Africa with a large number of rural people. It is bordered by Zambia to the northwest, Tanzania to the northeast, and Mozambique on the east, south and west. It is the least developed countries in the world and economically dependent on agriculture.
The country is divided into 3 regions namely: Central, Northern and Southern region.
The Southern part of Malawi is made up of 13 districts and Nsanje is one of them. Nsanje is the poorest district in the Southern area and very dependent on NGO and foreign aids. Deeply cultural people who worship a deity called “Mbona” who was believed to have been beheaded 100 of years ago and out flowed a river of blood called Ndione.
One of their cultural practices is sexual cleansing ritual which is performed by some selected men called “hyenas”

The “hyenas” of Malawi

A hyena is a traditional position in some parts of southern Malawi held by a man who initiates young women into adulthood through sex. A hyena is a man paid to have sex with young women between the ages of 12–17, as a part of a rite of passage called "kusasa fumbi" (‘shaking the dust’) or (sexual cleansing). Hyenas are paid from $4 to $7 each time. They are chosen for their moral character and are believed to be incapable of contracting diseases such as HIV/AIDS.
Sexual cleansing is a practice viewed as a way to ritually cleanse girls after their first period, usually within a three-day window. Some families tell girls they will get infections if they don't have sex with a "hyena”. (2 Kings 16:3; 2 Kings 17:17; Jeremiah 32:35; Ezekiel 16:21).

According to a study on sexual cleansing rituals in Western Kenya from 2007, sexual intercourse is seen as a sacred rite when performed as a ritual — and has the power to cleanse evil spirits and sanctify.

Eric Aniva told the BBC that he was hired by families to have sex with more than 100 young women, including children.
Eldson Chagara/AP

Prayer Focus:
  • Father, we ask for mercy concerning this community of people who engage in this practice. We ask for mercy because they have relied on broken cisterns that cannot hold water, that cannot sustain, save, deliver and genuinely cleanse them. Jer 2:13.
  • Father, we ask for mercy concerning families that have given their children to this evil practice. Just like King Ahaz who caused his children to walk on fire in service to heathen gods. 2 kings 16:3.
  • Father, we ask that by the power of the cross the deceitfulness of this practice and lies that have thrived for long be revealed and completely exposed.
  • Father, there is no other name under heaven by which men (boys, girls, children, hyenas etc.) can be saved only by the name of Jesus. Acts 4:12.
  • Father, let it be known that it is the LAMB OF GOD that takes away the sins of people, He alone breaks the power of evil not any “hyenas”. John 1:29.
  • Father, raise a voice that would cry out in the district of Nsanje against this practice and would proclaim the gospel of Christ, the Lamb that was slain for their redemption. John 1:23,29.

THIS IS MY FATHER’S WORLD

This is my Father's world,
And to my listening ears
All nature sings, and round me rings
The music of the spheres.
This is my Father's world:
I rest me in the thought
Of rocks and trees, of skies and seas;
His hand the wonders wrought.

This is my Father's world,
The birds their carols raise,
The morning light, the lily white,
Declare their maker's praise.
This is my Father's world,
He shines in all that's fair;
In the rustling grass I hear him pass;
He speaks to me everywhere.

This is my Father's world.
O let me ne'er forget
That though the wrong seems oft so strong,
God is the ruler yet.
This is my Father's world
The battle is not done Jesus who died shall be satisfied
and earth and heav’n be one

Children, Teenagers and Young People
- Timothy

Acts 16:3-5

"Him would Paul have to go forth with him; and took and circumcised him because of the Jews which were in those quarters: for they knew all that his father was a Greek. And as they went through the cities, they delivered them the decrees for to keep, that were ordained of the apostles and elders which were at Jerusalem. And so were the churches established in the faith, and increased in number daily."

1 Timothy 4:12, 14-16

"Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity."

"Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee."

2 Timothy 1:1-3

"Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus, to Timothy, my dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day."

1 Timothy 5:23

"Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach’s sake and thine often infirmities."

TIMOTHY, A DISCIPLE OF PAUL

God raised Paul as a father, a disicpler that will take Timothy to the next stage of his walk with the Lord which will launch him into the ministry.

Paul’s concern for Timothy covered his spiritual life and his physical well-being.
His mother and grandmother laid the foundation, just as some of us are laying, but the gap or omission is that when these children have outgrown our discipleship, there are no fathers or mothers to take them out of our hands and push them into the next level.

They are left uncatered for and unattended to; and they lose their consecration, passion and in some cases, their faith.

God’s aim, plan, and purpose for the church is for young people to be disicipled until, they also can become ministers of the same gospel that they have received.

PRAYER POINTS

  • Lord, please make us, send us fathers, mothers, disicplers, handlers, nurses who will take Your young people to the next level in their walk with you.
  • Lord, please send to Your young people disicplers who will carry them along, and pour into them what they have received from the Lord; who will take notice of young men and women of good report.
  • Lord, we beg of you this day, please send labourers, nurses, midwives into the nation of children and young people.
  • The harvest of young people is ripe and rotting; please our Lord of the harvest, please send men, women, brothers, sisters who have received, believed and imbibed the true gospel, who are authentic followers of Jesus Christ who will teach, train , show our young people the way to go and help launch them into their destiny in ministering the gospel to their own generation, in Jesus' name.
  • Lord, do not let the passion for Your name fizzle out, diminish, and finish in the hands of our youth. Lord, please fan the passion for Your name to a greater height in the hearts of our young people.

TIMOTHY DISICIPLED INTO MINISTRY

1 Corin 4:14:17
"I write not these things to shame you, but as my beloved sons I warn you. For though ye have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel. Wherefore I beseech you, be ye followers of me. For this cause have I sent unto you Timotheus, who is my beloved son, and faithful in the Lord, who shall bring you into remembrance of my ways which be in Christ, as I teach everywhere in every church."

2 Timothy 2:1-2

"Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also."

1 Thessalonians 3:1-2

"Wherefore when we could no longer forbear, we thought it good to be left at Athens alone; and sent Timotheus, our brother, and minister of God, and our fellow labourer in the gospel of Christ, to establish you, and to comfort you concerning your faith."

PRAYER POINTS

  • Let us pray for our children, teenagers, young men and women and ask that the Lord will make them faithful to the gospel they have received.
  • Lord please do not let the world, its systems, its practices, its children, its expectations, its pressures, turn them to become faithless and unbelieving in the gospel.
  • Lord, please make them strong in the grace that is found in Christ Jesus; let them see, understand, appropriate this grace in every area of their lives.
  • Lord, please let the grace that accompanies every word of the gospel and doctrine of Christ be made available to them in Jesus' name, so they can be an example of the believer in word, in deed, in action, in thoughts, in every area of their lives.
  • Let our young people not despise their youth and look upon themselves as youth or children; please help them by the Holy Ghost to step up with Your power to put to use the gift of God deposited in them.
  • The gift of teaching, of praying, of administration, of living in and of understanding, Holy Ghost please bring them out of our young people in Jesus' name.

PRAYER POINTS
  • Lord, please let them give themselves wholly to the truth of the gospel; let them mediate on these things; let them throw their lives hook line and sinker into the living the gospel and making the gospel known.
  • Every other way, every other life, every other pursuit that makes the gospel to be in the back burner of their heart, or that makes the gospel even non-existent to them, Lord, please we beg you, uproot them out of their hearts, out of their lives in the name of Jesus.
  • Please Holy Spirit, let the gospel profit them and let this be evident in their lives.
